Research

Current projects include looking for the origins of aquatic nuisance species. This research should inform the search for efficacious biocontrol agents by identifying the regions where the insects most closely co-evolved with the introduced plants. Research also looks at genetic variation within host and biocontrol populations. Tools at this time involve primarily the use of RAPDS, although the lab is currently attempting to develop DNA sequencing and AFLP capabilities. Aquatic invasives currently under examination include hydrilla, water spinach (Ipomea aquatica), and Melaleuca quinquenervia.
